The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute under public law of the state of Berlin, dedicated to interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics and data-driven science. Researcher (f/m/d)

on a full-time basis (39,4 hours per week), limited until March 31, 2029. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.

Your tasks

We are seeking a dedicated researcher to join our team and focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and mathematics, specifically in the areas of algorithms with predictions and the application of machine learning to algebra.

The role involves the development, implementation, and analysis of machine learning methods and transformers within algorithms. You will be responsible for the development, practical testing and adaptation of these methods to cluster systems and for advancing the theoretical foundations of the field. A key part of this position is ensuring our methodologies meet high standards of scientific rigor.

This goal-oriented, scientific role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about advancing the field of machine learning.

Your profile

  • Outstanding University degree (Master’s/Diploma) in computer science, mathematics or comparable subjects
  • Expertise in the intersection of algebra and machine learning, preferably demonstrated by first author publications in the area at top-tier conferences (ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML)
  • Programming experience preferably in Python and relevant deep learning libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch
  • Interest in exploring new research questions and driving their solutions toward practical implementation
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Very good English language skills
